// Why This Matters

What These Tests Tell You

A quick way to confirm whether a problem is a hardware fault or just a settings issue — before you book a repair.

1

A key doesn't light up at all

Usually a hardware issue — a worn switch, loose internal cable, or spill damage under that key.

2

Camera shows a black screen or won't turn on

Could be a driver/privacy-setting issue, or a faulty camera module or ribbon cable — we can tell which once we look.

3

Mic picks up nothing, or your recording is very faint

Often a blocked mic port or a dying internal microphone — less commonly a software input-level setting.

4

Only one speaker plays, or sound is weak/rattling

Usually a damaged speaker unit or a loose internal audio connector, especially after a drop or spill.

5

A dot or patch doesn't change colour in the pixel test

A dead pixel stays permanently black; a stuck pixel is fixed on one colour. Both are hardware faults — the LCD panel or backlight may need replacement.

6

Battery drains very fast or won't charge past a certain %

A battery that loses charge rapidly usually needs replacement. If the laptop won't charge at all, the issue could be the charging port, the DC board, or the battery itself.

// FAQ

Common Questions

What can I test with this tool?

Your keyboard (every key, plus a 15-inch laptop layout and a MacBook layout), your webcam, your microphone with playback, and your left and right speakers.

A key, the camera, or a speaker doesn't respond — does that mean it's broken?

Usually yes, if you're sure you tried it properly. It could be a worn switch, a loose internal cable, a driver issue, or physical damage. Bring it in and we'll confirm the exact cause.

Does this tool work on mobile phones?

The keyboard test needs a physical keyboard, so it works best on a laptop. The camera, mic, and speaker tests will also work on a phone browser.

Is this tool free to use, and is my data safe?

Yes, completely free, no sign-up needed. Everything runs directly in your browser — nothing you type, record, or preview is stored or sent anywhere.

How does the screen pixel test work?

The test fills your entire screen with a single solid colour — white, black, red, green, blue, or yellow. Any pixel that displays the wrong colour (or stays black or stays lit) stands out immediately. Cycle through all six colours for a thorough check, because a stuck pixel may only be visible against certain backgrounds.

Why doesn't the battery test work in my browser?

The Battery Status API is only available in Chrome and Edge on Windows. Firefox and Safari intentionally removed it to protect user privacy. If the test shows "not supported", try opening this page in Chrome. The reading comes directly from your operating system — no data ever leaves your computer.
